We loved getting to explore Anchorage in the “off-season.” It was cold, but no shortage of warm faces and delicious local fare. In no particular order, here are my favorite recommendations straight out of the locals’ mouths. (All with active links)
Snow City Cafe: Artistic, local spins on breakfast favorites. We went twice in one day.
The Bubbly Mermaid: Champagne & oyster bar. Creative and upscale! 10 retro seats in the whole place.
Alaska Center for the Performing Arts: Word-class acts in the heart of downtown. The Anchorage Concert Association won’t steer you wrong! I was lucky to perform here with The Moxie Strings.
Kaladi Brothers Coffee: Quality spot with friendly baristas!
Girdwood Brewing Co.: Great brews, merch, and an outdoor fire pit.
Octopus Ink Gallery: Beautiful, trendy, sea-inspired art on clothing and prints. All by a local artist.
Simon & Seaforts: Upscale seafood right on the water. Get the ceviche!
90.3 KNBA Radio: Native radio playing mostly musician-friendly indy rock. Great travel tunes!
Jack Sprat: Cozy and eclectic Girdwood dining overlooking the ski hills.
Alaska Botanical Garden: Bit of a trek outside town, but beautiful trails and wooded views.
Polar Bear Gifts: Downtown superstore for all your Alaska gifts.
