What happy and relaxed looks like 🌅 It’s been awhile. I’m amidst a crazy season of travel, musical projects, teaching, etc … and this time I’ve balanced it with some heartfelt quiet time behind the scenes. I’m reminded more than ever how important it is to prioritize what refills you. As much as eating well, exercising, and sleep… it’s crucial to find that activity, person, or place that helps loosen the grip of life and makes things more manageable and enjoyable. For mental peace but also basic sustainability. (A reminder to myself.)

When your cup is full of worries and stressers, who/what/where helps empty it? Make more room for that. 🧡

Ugh ❤️🧡 Every time I join a group like this I’m reminded how much my soul is fed by working with young people. They each hold so much potential energy to make the world better and more beautiful, musically and otherwise, and I feel so invested in their happiness and success. Hearing them improvise, ask thoughtful questions, show such bravery and open-mindedness… I walk away feeling so honored and humbled to be a part of their journey in any small way 🧡❤️

(These students in Grand Forks were a stellar example.)

California to North Dakota 🤪❄️ despite the -25° look on my face it was a seriously enjoyable week with the kiddos in Grand Forks. Quick stop in Vegas and then on to the next adventure 🤷🏼‍♀️🤩
I’ll burn out on the nomad life eventually, but right now I’m loving the number of fun climates, people, and experiences I’m tallying up ☺️

All my creative devices splayed out in a California basement 😩💻🎻 This is the hardest it’s been in a LONG time to summon the winning ideas. I often advise students to “keep showing up”, and I was due to be challenged and have to heed my own advice. The elusive breakthrough moment took days and days to finally show its face. And it ended up dropping in while I was at the gym 🤣

Happy to report I’m *very close* to emerging from the basement with some exciting new orchestra arrangements that I’ll get to test run next week with the orchestras in Grand Forks, North Dakota 😊💜

Enjoying some time out in Cali and the knee is holding up 💪🏼☀️ I’ve been sorting some thoughts on professional hunger and that endless “hustle” so many of us experience … is there ever an arrival? Where’s the balance between knowing you can do more but also finding your own sense of “enough”?
There will always be a higher peak in the distance, but at what cost do you get there? And how do you balance your day-to-day?? Genuine questions. Chime in if you have thoughts 💜💜
