Calling all drriifters

Welcome!

Drriift is my outlet for countless hours spent learning, pondering, and reflecting on the incredible amount of experiences that my life of music and travel grants me. Full-time touring gives me the opportunity to see some of the most fascinating places and meet the most interesting people, all while attempting to stay mentally and physically healthy. The frequency of these heightened experiences has finally called for a place to share, and I’m so excited to have you along. Thank you for joining me on this new journey.

I had most of this first post written and realized there was a key ingredient missing. Until now I’ve been pretty private about the “hard stuff,” publicly; posting pictures of large crowds, smiling selfies, and pretty landscapes. I won’t lie, most of my life is absolutely as amazing as it seems, but this is a safe space to talk about the not-so-amazing, too.

To honestly portray life on the road, I need to be candid about the good and the bad.

I adore my life and am grateful for it every day, but my successes have also been met by humbling and painful challenges. As my social media posts will tell you, I’m thrilled that I get to travel and play my instrument for a living, but they won’t tell you that I have also battled 16 years of crippling nerve pain in my bow arm. Picturesque trail runs and some notable race wins have given way to a knee injury that I’m still resting over a year later. The glamour of stage lights and large audiences is at the expense of my positive body image. Being a woman in this industry isn’t easy, and the music career I adore is made possible by countless hours of dogged behind-the-scenes work that makes life/work balance an on-going challenge. This isn’t a sympathy plea, but invitation to join me on an honest exploration of life through travel, music, and connection.

So who is this blog for? I hope it can be for all of us. This is my chance to connect with drriifters like you. Drriifters are students of every moment and we live for connection. We enjoy experiences fully, curiously, and carve a little deeper than most. Travelers and non-travelers alike, we are adventurers in every step. Where others keep moving, we stop to ask a question. To learn. For self-betterment. For world-betterment. To share. And to be grateful.

We have a deep respect for the world, and believe every moment has something to offer us.

Would you call yourself a drriifter?

The first series of posts will be a good example of how travel can be an expedited snapshot of life. These are lessons I’ve learned specific to travel, but they transcend specifics and pertain to life as a whole. First stop: Alaska, where I pondered decision-making, perfectionism, and my strategies for relieving stress on the road. (With travel hacks!)

See you next week 💙💨🌏

Diana

I love that you’re being so real! I think you already know this but this is one of the most healthy aspects that you can have. It’s so important to call it out, name it and surrender up whatever holds you back. I’m so proud of you. Keep it coming. You’re inspiring so many…probably more than you really know.

Thanks so much for sharing, especially the hard parts. I relate to the nagging injuries, the profound challenges they pose, the struggle with body image, and the search for peace through all of life’s gifts and obstacles. Enjoy the journeys.

Thanks for this Marcy. Sorry to hear you can relate so well! But there’s such power in having company in the struggle, isn’t there?! Thanks so much for reading.

So proud of you my friend. I often wonder how a 30 year old can be besties with a 56 (soon to be 57 🤤) year old and how blessed I am to have this friendship, I see myself in you with the body image struggles I delt with at your age, and we’ve had many discussions on the subject. Many others will relate too, and the people following your blog will be amazed at what info and support you can provide through your journey. I Cant wait to follow and see the next chapter of Di, love you baby girl!

K! My girl! This means the world to me. You’ve had a front row seat to this journey and have given me SO much guidance- thank you for being such an amazing friend. Seriously. There’s no one more giving than you! I’m just lucky to get to experience it. Your support means everything. Love YOU!
